Community Outreach
The vision of the outreach division is an expression of Canton Ballet’s spirit of artistry and passion. It creates dynamic, multi-sensory learning experiences through dance activities, fostering an appreciation of ballet as a vital cultural art form in students of all ages and backgrounds. Our mission is to educate and uplift individuals of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds.
Performances in theatres and in schools
Since 1978, Canton Ballet has offered Peter and the Wolf annually to area schools as one of its community outreach programs.
Over the years school children have been mesmerized by such Canton Ballet programs as Peter and the Wolf, Nutcracker, Paquita, Don Quixote and Cinderella. Study guides are available for Peter and the Wolf and Nutcracker, as are docent programs for schools attending these performances. These matinee performances are only open to student groups. Come see a pre-professional performance complete with costumes, sound, lighting, make-up and sets.
From preschool through high school, live performance in a beautifully restored historic theatre provides a lesson in history, architecture, ballet and music for area school children.
A traveling production of Peter and the Wolf and lecture demonstrations for all ages are available for schools along with in-school dance residencies focusing on Preschool age children.
In school and after school dance classes
Canton Ballet’s program is designed to inspire at-risk children to stay in school and possibly even discover a career path. Students engage in dance as a positive in-school and after school activity. Such programs have been shown to limit the incidence of at-risk related behavior. We provide dance based activities that demonstrate excellence, involve, teach and expand the perspectives of participants and help them to develop an appreciation of ballet.
