Summer Intensive Workshop classes provide time for serious ballet study. Freed from the pressures and concerns of school and other activities, dancers can relax and concentrate on improving their technique while experiencing different instructors, different styles of dance and learning more about their art forms.
Canton Ballet accepts students from all over the country and especially Northeast Ohio who are looking for a caring and safe environment to expand their knowledge of dance. The Canton Ballet summer intensive is perfect for those who want to commute and also offers housing opportunities in private homes for those who live farther away.
Students have the goal of achieving a high quality dance education and will receive personalized attention from our faculty and our guest teachers. A typical day begins at 10 am with conditioning or ballet technique, followed by a variety of classes including pointe, variations, jazz, modern, choreography, rehearsals, etc. Seminars are offered throughout the program in areas pertinent to young dancers such as nutrition, injury prevention, music, stage makeup, and careers in dance. The day concludes at about 3:30 pm.
A special feature of Canton Ballet’s Summer Intensive is an opportunity for students to study the craft of choreography with Canton Ballet’s award-winning Choreographer in Residence Angelo Lemmo and to create their own works.
The workshop concludes with a performance onstage at the Cultural Center for the Arts Education Annex presenting works prepared in class as well as works choreographed by students.
